Srinagar, September 23, 2025: Nearly 1.37 lakh metric tonnes of fresh fruit have been dispatched from the Kashmir Valley in just the last 10 days through the Srinagar–Jammu National Highway, Mughal Road, and parcel train service, officials confirmed on Monday.
At a press conference, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Anshul Garg said a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) was recently put in place to ensure smooth transportation of fruit during the peak harvest season.
👉 “Every day, around 1,500 to 2,000 fruit-laden trucks are dispatched to Jammu via the National Highway and Mughal Road on an alternate-day basis,” Garg said.
Highway & Mughal Road Movement
He added that restoration efforts on the Srinagar–Jammu National Highway have significantly improved traffic flow.
“Earlier, only 1,500–2,000 trucks moved daily. Now, 3,500–4,000 trucks are plying. Last night alone, nearly 3,500 trucks moved towards Srinagar, and all fruit trucks are expected to reach Jammu by evening,” he said.
On the Mughal Road, nearly 1,800–1,900 trucks carried fruit towards Jammu on Sunday, with evacuation of fresh produce prioritised.
Parcel Train Boost
The Divisional Commissioner highlighted the operationalisation of the parcel train service from Kashmir to Delhi, carrying 800–1,000 MT of fruit daily.
To ease farmers’ access, fruit loading points have been expanded.
“Growers from North Kashmir can now load from Baramulla, while farmers from South Kashmir can use the Anantnag rail station. This has made the process faster and more convenient,” Garg noted.
The measures aim to support growers by reducing transit delays and ensuring that fresh produce reaches markets across India on time.
