Jammu, January 23, 2026 : Udhampur Police on Friday carried out a swift and daring rescue operation, saving 12 stranded persons, including women and children, who were trapped amid heavy snowfall in the Chochru Galla area of Basantgarh.
Following a distress call received at Police Post Sangh, located around 12 kilometres from the affected area, a rescue team was immediately dispatched. Battling treacherous terrain, deep snow and harsh weather, police personnel took nearly three hours to reach the stranded families, reportedly belonging to mobile communities.
Visuals shared by Udhampur Police on X showed officers escorting the rescued persons down steep, snow-covered slopes, assisting elderly women and children to safety.
After the successful operation, all rescued individuals were provided food, shelter and medical assistance at the police post.
Sharing the update, Udhampur Police said:
“Udhampur Police successfully rescued 12 persons stranded due to heavy snowfall in the upper ridges of Basantgarh area.”
Meanwhile, due to inclement weather and heavy rainfall, authorities ordered the closure of all government and private schools across Udhampur district for the day.
