In 2022, the Higher Education Department had sanctioned 17 positions in various teaching departments, including Journalism and Media Studies, Philosophy and Directorate of Hindi. Besides, 68 teaching and non-teaching posts were sanctioned for the University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET) at Kathua campus.
According to an official spokesperson, Vice-Chancellor Prof Umesh Rai appreciated Alok Kumar, Principal Secretary, Higher Education Department, and Santosh D Vaidya, Principal Secretary, Finance Department, for their ‘unwavering support’.
“Rai said the creation of 19 teaching posts in phase-I will strengthen the academic and research capabilities of the university and help in raising the standards of teaching and learning,” the spokesperson said.
In the current year, the University of Jammu has been listed among the top 50 institutions in India in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) for 2024. “This achievement reflects the University’s commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and research. The sanctioning of new positions marks yet another milestone in the University’s journey of growth,” the spokesperson said.
The spokesperson added that this highlighted the commitment of the Lieutenant Governor, Higher Education Department and J&K Government to promoting quality education and research. “These positions would enable the university to expand its academic offerings, enhance research capabilities and contribute to the holistic development of students, in line with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP)-2020,” the spokesperson said.
The VC said, “These newly sanctioned positions will help us further our mission of transforming the university into a centre of academic excellence, innovation and research. “With the backing of our leadership, we are confident that the University of Jammu will continue to set new benchmarks and strengthen its position as a leading institution, not just in the region but globally,” Rai said.
He said he was hopeful that the Finance and Higher Education Departments would consider sanctioning the remaining teaching positions in phase-II to support the university in meeting its academic commitments effectively.
