BILASPUR (CHHATTISGARH), November 4, 2025 : A tragic collision between a MEMU passenger train and a goods train near Bilaspur railway station on Tuesday left five passengers dead and 14 injured, officials confirmed.
The accident occurred around 4 PM between Gatora and Bilaspur stations, when the passenger train from Gevra to Bilaspur rammed into a stationary goods train from behind.
Bilaspur Collector Sanjay Agrawal said four passengers were still trapped in the wreckage, and rescue teams were working to extricate them. The injured have been admitted to Apollo Hospital and CIMS Bilaspur, with one reported to be critical.
Railway officials have announced ₹10 lakh compensation for the kin of the deceased, ₹5 lakh for those seriously injured, and ₹1 lakh for minor injuries.
A Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) inquiry has been ordered to determine the cause of the crash.
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai expressed grief, directing officials to ensure immediate medical aid and assistance to victims. He stated that rescue operations are being carried out on a war footing, with full coordination between railway and district authorities.
