KATHMANDU, November 4, 2025 : At least nine climbers, including two Nepali guides, were killed in two separate avalanches in Nepal’s Himalayas, officials confirmed on Tuesday.
Seven mountaineers — including two Italians (Paolo Cocco, Marco Di Marcello), a Canadian, a French, a German, and two Nepalis — died after being buried in snow near Mt. Yalung Ri (6,920m) under Gaurishanker Rural Municipality on Monday morning.
A joint rescue mission has been launched to retrieve the bodies, while five others, including three Nepalis and two French climbers, were airlifted to Kathmandu hospitals.
In a separate tragedy, two Italian climbers — Stefano Farronato and Alessandro Caputo — who had gone missing after heavy snowfall on Mt. Panbari (6,887m) were found dead inside their tent at Camp I. Another Italian climber, Velter Paralion, was rescued earlier.
The Nepal Tourism Board expressed deep condolences, saying, “We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of lives in the Himalayas. Our heartfelt sympathies go out to the families and friends of the victims.”
