Jammu, September 4, 2025 : In a significant humanitarian initiative, the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB) has extended relief support to more than 1,000 families affected by incessant rainfall and landslides in Katra and adjoining areas of Reasi and Udhampur districts.
Relief Distribution in Phases
As part of the first phase, relief material for 400 families was handed over to the Reasi district administration to ensure immediate assistance. The distributed kits include dry rations, utensils, blankets, medicines, buckets, tarpaulins, and tents, aimed at addressing urgent needs and helping families cope with the aftermath of the calamity.
Shelter for Displaced Families
Responding to the request of the district administration, the Shrine Board has also made special arrangements for the families of Purana Daroor village, whose homes were severely damaged. These families have been temporarily shifted to Shakti Bhawan, Niharika Complex, Katra, where they are being provided shelter and care to ensure their safety and well-being during this challenging period.
Continuing Humanitarian Commitment
Officials of the Shrine Board said the relief measures will continue in coordination with the district administration to cover more affected families. “Our aim is to stand by the people in their hour of need and provide them with all possible support,” an official stated.
The initiative comes at a time when heavy rains have triggered widespread damage across Reasi and Udhampur, displacing several families and highlighting the need for community-driven relief efforts.
