Srinagar, September 4, 2025 : Srinagar Police, in coordination with SDRF and River Police, evacuated nearly 200 families and individuals from flood-hit areas of the district on Thursday as water levels in the Jhelum began to recede, easing fears of further flooding across the Valley.

A police spokesperson said that quick reaction teams have been deployed across vulnerable locations to provide timely assistance to stranded citizens.
“In response to the flood-like situation and heavy waterlogging in parts of the city, Srinagar Police, along with SDRF and River Police, launched a comprehensive evacuation and relocation plan to safeguard lives and property,” he said.

Areas Affected & Evacuation Details

  • Peerzo Island & Basant Bagh: 24 families and houseboat dwellers rescued.

  • Bonyarbal, S.R. Gunj, Malik Sahib, Safakadal, Pamposh Colony, Noorbagh, Guzarbal, Madanyar Fateh Kadal: 39 families shifted.

  • Dedi Kadal, Habba Kadal, Zaindar Mohalla, Tankipora, Karan Nagar, Kursoo, Iqbal Colony, Aramwari: 20 families relocated.

  • Tailbal & Hazratbal areas: 20 families rescued.

  • Panzinara-Mujgund, Maloora Bund, Khawajabagh Bund, Parimpora Bund, Bilal Colony Bund, Qamarwari, Rampora Chattabal Bund, Zenpora & Tengan: 63 individuals evacuated.

Preventive & Relief Measures

Police teams have also identified and plugged potential breaches in embankments, averting further escalation of the flood threat. Additionally, contingency and quick-reaction teams have been activated at all police establishments to assist citizens, regulate traffic in waterlogged areas, and deliver aid at doorsteps.

Round-the-clock dedicated helplines have been established for emergencies, while citizens have been urged to:

  • Avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rains.

  • Report waterlogging, fallen trees, or electric hazards to the nearest police station or PCR.

  • Cooperate with police and emergency services and strictly follow advisories.

Authorities assured that evacuation and relief efforts will continue until all vulnerable families are secured.
