Srinagar, September 6, 2025 : Authorities on Saturday informed that traffic is currently plying on the Mughal Road and Srinagar–Sonamarg–Gumri (SSG) Road, but only for light motor vehicles (LMVs), while the vital Jammu–Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) continues to remain closed due to multiple landslides and damaged road stretches.
A senior traffic official said that despite the resumption of vehicular movement on alternate routes, the closure of NH-44—the main all-weather road connecting the Valley with the rest of the country—has caused significant inconvenience to commuters and transporters. “Restoration work on the highway is going on in full swing, but vehicular traffic shall remain suspended until further notice,” the official stated.
He urged commuters not to attempt travel on NH-44 until the authorities formally declare it open. “People are advised not to pay heed to rumors and should verify road status updates through the Traffic Police Control Units (TCUs) and official handles on Twitter and Facebook before planning any journey,” he added.
Meanwhile, traffic officials confirmed that stranded vehicles are being managed in phases through Mughal Road and SSG to ensure smooth passage and avoid congestion. The situation is being closely monitored, with men and machinery working round the clock on critical stretches of NH-44 in Udhampur, Ramban, and Banihal sectors.
