Leh, September 12, 2025 : A significant step toward sustainable energy was achieved today with the inauguration of a 15kW solar power plant in Urgo Phobrang village, located in Leh district.
The event was graced by Konchok Stanzin, Councillor of Chushul constituency, who highlighted the importance of renewable energy in improving living standards in remote areas and reducing dependence on conventional fuels. He praised the efforts of the Himmotthan Society, which has been implementing projects in the challenging conditions of Durbuk block, where harsh winters and a short working season pose major difficulties.
Stanzin also acknowledged other ongoing initiatives such as Natural Resource Management (NRM), smart schools, animal health camps, promotion of high-value crops, and greenhouse development.
“With the solar plant now operational, Urgo Phobrang will have reliable lighting and energy access, enabling improved household living and community activities during evening hours,” he said.
