Jammu, September 24, 2025: In a historic first, Justice Sanjeev Kumar, senior-most judge of the J&K and Ladakh High Court, presided over Division Bench proceedings from the remote border town of Gurez through virtual mode.
This landmark move ensures access to justice beyond geographical barriers, marking a milestone in digital integration of judicial services.
Gurez, located in Bandipora district, has long remained cut off from regular judicial infrastructure. As part of his visit as Executive Chairman of J&K Legal Services Authority under the NALSA-2024 child-friendly scheme, Justice Kumar connected virtually while Justice Sanjay Parihar joined from the Jammu wing. Lawyers from Jammu and Srinagar wings participated remotely via video conferencing.
➡️ 50 cases (45 from Jammu, 5 from Srinagar) were heard, exhausting the day’s cause list.
➡️ Justice Kumar directed the installation of an e-Court kiosk at Munsiff Court, Gurez to provide residents with real-time access to filing, updates, and cause lists.
➡️ He stressed strengthening IT infrastructure to integrate physical and digital court systems for greater judicial efficiency.
“This initiative bridges geographical and climatic barriers, keeping Gurez connected to courts across India,” said Justice Kumar.
