Jammu | Updated: 03:45 AM, September 24, 2025 : The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has successfully restored the Budhal–Mahore–Gul (BMG) road, a crucial lifeline for both defense logistics and civilian movement across the Pir Panjal ranges, after it remained shut for nearly a month due to heavy rains.

The road, linking Budhal (Rajouri) with Mahore (Reasi), was washed away on August 28 when torrential rains and flash floods swept off the Badora diversion, cutting off connectivity for around 15 villages and severely impacting transport between Reasi, Rajouri, and Ramban.

📌 Strategic & Civilian Significance:

  • The BMG road is vital for military movement and logistics, ensuring supply to forward areas.

  • It also acts as a lifeline for local residents, connecting remote villages to district headquarters, enabling transport of goods, services, and emergency relief.

📌 Challenges Faced:
Multiple landslides along the route initially blocked machinery and manpower from reaching the site. Rising water flow from the Badora Nallah further complicated repair efforts.

📌 Restoration Efforts:
A team of 110 Road Construction Company (RCC) under the 31 Border Roads Task Force (BRTF), Project Sampark, undertook the herculean task.

  • River diversion (river training) was carried out by creating a temporary channel with River Bed Material (RBM), allowing safe access to the site.

  • Work began on September 12 and continued day and night.

  • By September 20, the Badora diversion was rebuilt and connectivity restored.

In addition, a 300-metre stretch at Sarh and Jamslan, which had sunk vertically by 12 metres due to incessant rains, was also repaired, reinstating traffic movement.

📌 BRO in Ladakh:
In a parallel development, the BRO opened a 91-km road between Hanle and Chumar in Ladakh, traversing altitudes of 14,500–17,200 ft via Salsa La Pass. Built under Project Himank, the road will not only boost operational readiness for Armed Forces but also promote tourism and socio-economic growth by connecting Hanle Observatory, Kyun Tso, Chilling Tso, and Tso Moriri.
