NEW DELHI, October 4, 2025 : In a bizarre incident, the Delhi Police have arrested a man who appeared in his undergarments, smoking and drinking during court proceedings held through videoconferencing.
The accused, identified as Md Imran (32) of Gokulpuri, is a history-sheeter with over 50 criminal cases, including robbery, snatching, and other offences registered across the national capital, officials said.
According to police, a case was registered on September 22 following a complaint by Anshul Singhal, the record keeper at Tis Hazari Courts, alleging that on September 16 and 17, an unknown individual repeatedly joined the court’s WebEx hearings under the fake name Akib Akhlak.
Despite repeated instructions to leave, the individual continued to remain online while smoking and consuming alcohol, disrupting judicial proceedings.
“Technical analysis of IP addresses and call data revealed the accused used multiple fake email IDs and frequently changed his location,” said DCP (North) Raja Banthia.
After intensive tracking, a police team located Imran in Chaman Park, Old Mustafabad, and arrested him from his residence.
During interrogation, Imran confessed that he had joined the virtual hearings “out of curiosity”, admitting to appearing half-dressed while smoking and drinking on camera.
Police seized a mobile phone, SIM card, and Wi-Fi router used to commit the offence.
Once an air-conditioner mechanic and school dropout, Imran had been jailed earlier and released in 2021. Since then, he allegedly resumed criminal activities to sustain his addiction to drugs and alcohol.
Authorities have described the act as a serious breach of courtroom decorum, and further investigation is underway.
