SRINAGAR, October 5, 2025 : The Handicrafts and Handloom Department is set to celebrate Kashmir’s rich artisan heritage with the launch of the ‘Know Your Artisan’ campaign, a flagship initiative under the ‘Soulful Kashmir’ promotion. The campaign invites the public to meet the masters behind Kashmir’s world-renowned crafts and experience their art firsthand.
According to a department spokesperson, events are scheduled for October 11, 25, and 30 at Jhelum Riverfront, Clock Tower Lal Chowk, and Heritage Bridge Rajbagh, respectively.
“National award-winning artisans and weavers will step out of their workshops to share personal stories, demonstrate intricate techniques, and engage directly with visitors and tourists,” the spokesperson said.
The campaign will spotlight 15 GI-registered crafts representing Kashmiri excellence, including carpet weaving, Pashmina and Kani weaving, Papier-mâché, walnut wood carving, and Khatamband ceiling art. Visitors will also learn about the QR coding system that verifies authenticity, ensuring every piece carries the true stamp of Kashmiri heritage.
Adding to the celebration, the events will highlight Srinagar’s status as a World Craft City and part of UNESCO’s Creative Cities Network, emphasizing the city’s global contribution to craftsmanship.
The campaign will also include student interaction sessions with legendary craftsmen to inspire the next generation in preserving and innovating traditional arts.
“Visitors can witness live demonstrations—from Pashmina weaving on looms to the precision of walnut carving—offering an up-close view of Kashmir’s famed handicrafts coming to life,” the spokesperson added.
The ‘Know Your Artisan’ series is free and open to all, promising an immersive experience of storytelling, culture, and craftsmanship.
