Jammu, October 16, 2025 : Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to honour his commitment to restore statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, reiterating that people had been assured of this within the first year of the new government’s tenure.
Addressing a press conference marking one year of the National Conference government, Abdullah said, “We were hopeful the Centre would fulfil its promise in the first year of our government, but it has not happened. I request the Prime Minister and his team to fulfil the promise made to the people by restoring statehood.”
He added that his government remains committed to all promises made in its election manifesto and has already taken steps by passing a resolution in the Assembly for statehood restoration.
“When we sought votes, it was for a five-year term. People may raise questions, but I urge them to judge us after five years,” the Chief Minister said.
