Srinagar, October 27, 2025 : Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather on Monday disallowed an adjournment motion by Peoples Conference president Sajad Gani Lone, who sought a discussion on the government’s alleged “failure to rationalize the reservation policy.”
Raising the issue soon after Question Hour, Lone warned that the existing approach was “a post-dated cheque for disaster.” However, the Speaker ruled the motion out, stating that it did not qualify as a matter of recent occurrence and was already under judicial consideration.
Citing procedural rules, the Speaker said, “This matter has been discussed earlier. The government has constituted a committee to examine it, and it is currently sub-judice, hence cannot be debated in the House.”
The decision sparked brief exchanges between opposition members and treasury benches before the House moved to the next agenda item.
