Srinagar, October 28, 2025 : The Jammu and Kashmir Government on Tuesday informed the Assembly that several measures are being implemented to promote the use of Hindi for official purposes and to make government functioning more linguistically inclusive.
In a written reply to BJP MLA Ranbir Singh Pathania, the government said all official websites and portals are being made trilingual — Hindi, Urdu, and English — to ensure wider accessibility.
The minister in-charge stated that official correspondences received in Hindi are replied to bilingually, while a 2022 committee report proposing the identification of areas for use of official languages — Hindi, Urdu, Kashmiri, Dogri, and English — is under consideration.
To promote Hindi, the government is preparing a database of language cells, strengthening their functionality, and leveraging the e-office system which includes Hindi templates for official communication.
Additionally, the government is planning training modules and sensitisation workshops through the J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages to enhance practical use of Hindi and other official languages.
The reply also noted that dedicated sections for Hindi and other official languages are being set up in public libraries across the UT.
On recruitment rules, the government clarified that proficiency in Hindi will be included as per the requirements of each service under the J&K Official Languages Act, 2020.
Regarding the promotion of Sanskrit, the government said the establishment of a dedicated Sanskrit board or academy would be considered in due course, keeping in view student interest and institutional needs.
