SRINAGAR, November 4, 2025 : The Election Commission has issued a show-cause notice to PDP candidate Aga Muntazir Mehdi for allegedly conducting late-night campaign events in Budgam without prior permission — a violation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC).
The notice cites video evidence and reports from Flying Squad Teams, confirming Mehdi’s political gatherings on November 1 and 3 beyond permitted hours.
Mehdi, in his written reply, denied any deliberate breach, stating the events were “spontaneous congregations” of locals who expressed emotional and faith-based support.
He maintained that the brief address was not a structured campaign but a “socially sensitive response” to community sentiments.
The EC has sought Mehdi’s written explanation within 24 hours, warning that further violations will attract stringent action under the MCC.
