SRINAGAR, November 11, 2025 : Jammu and Kashmir Police on Tuesday said they arrested a man in Pulwama district who was allegedly impersonating a Special Operations Group (SOG) officer and extorting money from locals by threatening them with fabricated authority.
The accused has been identified as Altaf Ahmad Dar, son of Assadullah Dar, a resident of Marval Kakpora. Police said Dar had been posing as an officer of SOG Srinagar, using the fake identity to intimidate residents and demand money from them.
Acting on credible information, a police team swiftly apprehended the accused and registered a case under FIR No. 74/2025 at Police Station Kakpora under Sections 319/351 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
“During the course of investigation, several people have come forward alleging that they were threatened and extorted by the impersonator. Their statements have been recorded, and further investigation is underway to trace any additional victims,” a police spokesperson said.
Police also urged citizens to remain vigilant against fraudulent elements posing as officials and to report any suspicious activity immediately to the nearest police station.
“J&K Police is committed to safeguarding the public from deceitful and criminal acts. No one will be allowed to misuse the name or uniform of the force for personal gain,” the statement added.
