Jammu, November 20, 2025 : The High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh has scheduled the final hearing of a petition filed by detained Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA and J&K unit president Mehraj Malik for December 4, following extensive arguments presented on Thursday.
Malik has been under detention since September 8 under the Public Safety Act (PSA) for allegedly disturbing public order and is currently lodged in Kathua Jail. Challenging his detention, Malik filed a habeas corpus petition on September 24 and has also sought ₹5 crore compensation, asserting the charges against him are unfounded.
According to AAP spokesperson and advocate Appu Singh Salathia, the case was taken up by Justice Yousef Wani at the Jammu wing of the High Court. Senior advocate Rahul Panth presented detailed submissions, arguing that the detention order was “illegal” and unsupported by valid grounds. The arguments, which continued for over 90 minutes, covered multiple facets of the case, questioning the legality and necessity of Malik’s detention.
Following the hearing, Justice Wani adjourned the matter and listed it for final consideration on December 4.
Salathia, who is also part of Malik’s legal team, said the defence panel includes senior advocate Rahul Pant, and advocates S. S. Ahmed, M. Tariq Mughal, and M. Zulkarnain Chowdhary.
