Srinagar, January 16, 2026 : In a significant crackdown on education-related fraud, the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Crime Branch Kashmir has filed a chargesheet against two accused in a case involving alleged cheating and criminal conspiracy, in which a complainant was duped of ₹13 lakh on the false promise of securing an MBBS admission for his son in a medical college in Karnataka.
According to an official statement, the chargesheet has been filed in FIR No. 10/2024 under Sections 420 (cheating) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code before the Court of the Sub-Judge, Baramulla. The accused have been identified as Aquib Javeed S/o Mohd Ayoub and Mohd Ahtesham Ahmad S/o Mohd Ayoub, both residents of Ring Road, Adarsh Nagar, Gulbarga, District Kalaburagi, Karnataka.
The case originated from a written complaint wherein the complainant alleged that he was approached by Dr. Shamsu-Din, working at Al-Amin Medical College, Bijapur, who assured him of arranging an MBBS admission for his son through accused Aquib Javeed. Trusting the assurance, the complainant paid ₹13 lakh to the accused.
However, neither was admission provided in any medical college nor was the money returned, prompting the complainant to approach the authorities.
Following the complaint, a detailed investigation was launched by the Police Station, Economic Offences Wing, Crime Branch Kashmir. The investigation revealed that Aquib Javeed, in criminal conspiracy with his brother Mohd Ahtesham Ahmad, cheated the complainant by falsely promising admission in KBN Medical College, Bijapur.
The investigation established sufficient evidence to prove the commission of offences under Sections 420 and 120-B IPC. Consequently, the chargesheet has been submitted in absentia before the competent court by initiating proceedings under Section 512 of the Criminal Procedure Code, as the accused remained absconding.
The Crime Branch reiterated its commitment to taking strict action against fraudsters exploiting the aspirations of students and their families.
