Srinagar, January 17, 2026 : The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Crime Branch Kashmir has unearthed a major employment fraud, booking a former police employee for allegedly cheating multiple job aspirants by falsely promising government jobs and issuing forged appointment orders.
According to an official statement, the case was registered after the EOW, Srinagar received a written complaint alleging that the accused fraudulently collected nearly ₹23 lakh from innocent job seekers on the pretext of securing government employment. The complainants stated that the accused issued fake appointment orders and supplied forged documents, including counterfeit identity cards, licenses, appointment letters, and fabricated police and CID verification reports.
Following the complaint, the Economic Offences Wing initiated a preliminary probe, during which the allegations were found to be prima facie substantiated. Investigations revealed a systematic modus operandi wherein the accused duped victims of their hard-earned money through false assurances and forged job-related documents.
Taking cognizance of the matter, the EOW registered a case at Police Station Economic Offences Wing, Srinagar, under Sections 420 (cheating), 467, 468, and 471 of the Ranbir Penal Code (RPC). Further investigation is underway to identify additional victims and ascertain the full extent of the fraud.
Authorities have advised job aspirants to remain vigilant and verify recruitment claims through official channels to avoid falling prey to such scams.
