Srinagar, January 17, 2026 : The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday arrested two public servants in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district for accepting a bribe in a land demarcation case.
According to officials, the arrested persons include a Patwari (Revenue Clerk) of the Revenue Department and a Chowkidar, both posted in Halqa Soaf Shali area of Kokernag, Anantnag. They were caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of ₹15,000 from a complainant.
The CBI said it registered a case on January 15, 2026, following allegations that the Patwari had demanded a bribe of ₹30,000 for carrying out demarcation of the complainant’s land. Acting swiftly, the agency laid a trap on the same day and apprehended the Patwari along with the Chowkidar, who was allegedly acting as a middleman, while they were accepting the bribe amount.
Both accused have been arrested and further investigation in the matter is underway, officials said.
