Jammu, January 21, 2026 : With Republic Day approaching, security agencies have stepped up vigil across Jammu, conducting intensified searches and deploying additional forces to prevent any untoward incident.
Police, assisted by CRPF, carried out house-to-house searches in the Bhatindi–Narwal–Rajiv Nagar areas on the outskirts of Jammu city as part of enhanced security measures. Officials said the searches were precautionary and no detentions were made.
Simultaneously, additional Army troops have been inducted into the higher reaches of Kishtwar district, where the counter-terror operation Operation Trashi-I entered its fourth day. The operation was launched after an encounter in the Chatroo belt on Sunday in which a Special Forces paratrooper was martyred and seven soldiers were injured following a grenade attack by hiding terrorists.
Security forces have expanded search and combing operations in Sonnar, Mandral-Singhpora and adjoining forest areas, where two to three terrorists, suspected to be affiliated with Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad, are believed to be hiding. A major terrorist hideout was busted earlier, and several individuals were questioned, though no fresh contact has been established so far.
Officials said security has also been tightened along highways and border areas, with intensified checking, surveillance and frisking. Similar search operations are underway in Rajouri, Poonch, Samba, Kathua, Udhampur and Doda districts.
Meanwhile, BSF personnel destroyed a bag containing a rusty mortar shell in a controlled explosion at Border Outpost Bundtip in Samba district after it was recovered from labourers collecting scrap near the Basantar–Devika river confluence.
Authorities said the heightened measures aim to ensure peaceful and incident-free Republic Day celebrations.
