Srinagar, January 22, 2026 : Security has been significantly intensified across Kashmir ahead of Republic Day celebrations, with police stepping up patrolling and vehicle checks to foil any attempts by anti-national elements to disrupt the national event, officials said on Thursday.
In Srinagar, roads leading to Bakshi Stadium—the venue for the main official Republic Day समारोह in Kashmir—have been fortified with security barricades and obstacles at multiple locations. Senior district-level police officers are personally supervising the security arrangements to ensure effective and seamless implementation of the security plan.
“In view of the forthcoming Republic Day celebrations, police have enhanced security and checking measures across the Valley to ensure a peaceful, safe and incident-free observance,” officials said.
As part of the strengthened security grid, additional police personnel have been deployed at strategic and sensitive locations, particularly in Srinagar city. Special checkpoints and mobile patrols have been established, where thorough checking of vehicles and individuals is being carried out.
Officials added that night patrols and surprise inspections are also being conducted to maintain heightened vigilance and deter any attempt to disturb public order. Enhanced monitoring has been put in place to track suspicious movements, especially in vulnerable areas.
The police have appealed to the general public to cooperate during checking and verification procedures and urged citizens to immediately report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or the Police Control Room.
