Srinagar, January 25, 2026 : Ahead of Republic Day celebrations, security has been significantly tightened across Kashmir, with authorities putting in place stringent multi-layer arrangements to ensure a peaceful and incident-free event.
Officials said a three-tier security blanket has been thrown around Bakshi Stadium, the venue for the main official Republic Day function in the Valley. Barricades and checkpoints have been established on all roads leading to the stadium, while a large deployment of police and paramilitary personnel has been made across Srinagar city.
As part of the preparations, a full dress rehearsal for Republic Day was conducted on Saturday, which was presided over by Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Anshul Garg.
Security agencies have also intensified patrolling and vehicle checking across the Valley to foil any attempt by anti-national elements to disrupt the celebrations.
“Police have stepped up security and checking measures across the Valley to ensure a peaceful, safe and incident-free observance of Republic Day,” officials said.
Under the enhanced security grid, personnel have been deployed at strategic and sensitive locations, particularly in Srinagar. Special checkpoints and mobile patrols have been activated, with thorough checking of vehicles and individuals. Officials added that night patrols and surprise inspections are also being carried out to maintain heightened vigilance and deter any disturbance to public order.
Additional forces have been stationed in vulnerable and sensitive areas, with a special focus on monitoring suspicious movements. Senior police officers at the district level are personally supervising the arrangements to ensure effective and seamless implementation of the security plan.
The police have appealed to citizens to cooperate during checking and verification procedures and urged them to immediately report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or the Police Control Room.
