Jammu, January 27, 2026 : Four persons, including a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan, lost their lives in a fatal road accident on Tuesday in the Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said.
The mishap took place around 11 a.m. near the Jakhani–Chenani stretch of the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway when a bus travelling from Doda to Jammu reportedly went out of control. The bus first rammed into a motorcycle and then crashed into a parked load carrier that had developed a mechanical fault and was undergoing repairs on the roadside.
Officials said the mechanic repairing the load carrier and its driver died on the spot due to the impact. Two passengers travelling in the bus, including a CRPF jawan, were reportedly thrown out through the emergency window and sustained critical injuries. They succumbed while being shifted to a hospital.
Police rushed to the spot soon after the accident and initiated necessary legal formalities. Traffic on the busy highway was briefly disrupted following the crash, while further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact cause of the accident.
The incident has once again highlighted safety concerns on the Jammu–Srinagar highway, which witnesses frequent accidents due to heavy traffic and difficult terrain.
