Srinagar, January 28, 2026 : Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday expressed shock and deep sorrow over the tragic death of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar in a private plane crash.
In a message posted on X, Mehbooba Mufti said the news of the fatal crash was heartbreaking and extended her heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.
“Deeply shocked and saddened by reports of a tragic private plane crash claiming the life of Maharashtra Deputy CM Ajit Pawar along with others. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. May the departed souls rest in peace,” she said.
Ajit Pawar (66) was among five people who lost their lives when the private aircraft they were travelling in crashed while attempting an emergency landing at the Baramati Airfield in Pune district on Wednesday morning. The incident has sent shockwaves across the political spectrum, with leaders from across the country mourning the sudden loss of the senior Nationalist Congress Party leader.
Pawar’s death is being described as a major blow to Maharashtra’s political landscape, given his long association with public life and governance.
