Jammu, February 6, 2026 : Jammu and Kashmir is poised for a major economic rebound, with Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) projected to grow by 11 per cent, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah told the Assembly during the Budget Session on Thursday.

Despite recent challenges—including flood-related losses and the impact of a terror attack—the Chief Minister said the government has adopted a focused and pragmatic approach to recovery, prioritising infrastructure development, fiscal discipline and sustained engagement with the Centre. He added that an aerial survey of Bishnah town has already been completed as part of targeted regional planning and rehabilitation efforts.

Referring to tourism, Abdullah said several destinations were closed after the Pahalgam attack and confirmed that he would raise the issue with the Union Home Minister to seek their reopening. He underlined tourism as a key growth engine, noting that 1.61 crore tourists visited J&K in 2025. Plans are underway to develop world-class tourist destinations in Kashmir, including facilities for water and winter sports. The government will also organise the Jammu Marathon, Kashmir Marathon, and an International Film Festival in the Union Territory. A J&K Tourism mobile app has also been launched to enhance visitor experience.

In a major employment push, the Chief Minister announced that the government will fill 23,000 vacancies across departments. To address long-pending issues of daily wagers and casual workers, a high-level committee has been constituted, with a humane solution and regularisation policy expected soon. He also announced an increase in honorariums for ASHA and Anganwadi workers, recognising their critical role in public service delivery.

Highlighting welfare measures, Abdullah said that under MGNREGA, over three lakh houses for the homeless have been constructed. He also announced the resumption of the traditional Darbar Move, calling it an important step towards administrative efficiency and deeper regional integration between Jammu and Srinagar.

The Chief Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to balanced growth, social justice and long-term economic stability, stating that Jammu and Kashmir is firmly on the path to recovery and inclusive development.
