JAMMU, February 14, 2026: In a major blow to cross-border narcotics smuggling, security forces on Saturday seized over 6.5 kilograms of heroin, worth more than ₹40 crore, along the International Border (IB) in the R S Pura sector of Jammu.
The recovery was made during a joint operation by the 165th Battalion of the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Jammu and Kashmir Police from Nai Basti Karotana village in the Baspur area, officials said. The operation was launched following specific inputs about a drone dropping contraband from across the border.
According to police, information regarding suspicious drone movement was received during the intervening night of February 13 and 14. A thorough search of the area led to the recovery of two yellow-coloured packets containing 6.582 kg of heroin from fields located close to the International Border.
Terming the recovery a “significant achievement” in the fight against drug trafficking, officials said a case has been registered under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS Act). Further investigation is underway to identify the exact source and intended recipients of the consignment, with authorities expressing confidence of further breakthroughs.
Police have appealed to residents, particularly those living near the International Border, to share any information related to illegal drug activities. “With continued public cooperation, sincere efforts are being made to build a drug-free and crime-free society,” a police spokesperson said.
The seizure comes a day after police arrested two individuals—Jatin of Pathankot, Punjab, and Danish Dogra alias Sajan of Jakhbar, Kathua—for allegedly smuggling heroin from Pakistan using drones. The duo was arrested in connection with a drone-dropping case near Nagri and the recovery of 150 grams of heroin. Investigations revealed that they were in contact with a Pakistan-based smuggler through VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) calls.
