Jammu, February 18, 2026 : Zadibal MLA Tanvir Sadiq on Wednesday levelled serious allegations against the Bharatiya Janata Party, accusing it of discriminating against the Jammu region and neglecting the developmental interests of its people.
Speaking to reporters outside the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Sadiq claimed that the BJP was not a well-wisher of the people of Jammu, particularly those residing in the border districts of Poonch and Rajouri. He referred to the BJP’s assertion that nominating a tribal leader to Parliament ensured adequate representation for these regions, but alleged that the actual utilisation of development funds told a different story.
According to Sadiq, funds allocated under the Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) for Jammu and Kashmir were allegedly diverted and spent in Uttar Pradesh, instead of being used for the welfare of the constituencies the MP represents. He questioned the justification for such diversion, pointing out that Uttar Pradesh already has a large number of MPs and sufficient avenues for development funding.
Terming the alleged fund utilisation an “injustice” to the people of Poonch and Rajouri, the MLA said development resources must directly benefit the regions for which they are sanctioned. He further alleged that the funds were routed through a select few companies, raising concerns over transparency and fairness.
Sadiq demanded a thorough and impartial investigation into the utilisation of the MP funds to ascertain whether public money was misused. He stressed that accountability and transparency are essential to protect the interests of the people of Jammu and Kashmir and to restore public trust in democratic institutions.
