Jammu, February 18, 2026 : The Jammu and Kashmir Government has initiated extensive measures to strengthen drinking water infrastructure in the Basohli constituency, with major investments covering both rural and urban areas, Jal Shakti Minister Javed Ahmed Rana informed the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly on Wednesday.
Replying to a question raised by MLA Darshan Kumar, the Minister said that 43 Water Supply Schemes (WSSs) are being implemented to strengthen rural drinking water supply in Basohli.
Rural Water Supply: ₹242.46 Crore Investment
Rana said that out of the 43 schemes:

42 schemes are being executed under the Jal Jeevan Mission at a cost of ₹242.46 crore
-
One scheme is being funded under NABARD
“Six schemes have already been completed, while the remaining are at advanced stages of completion,” the Minister told the House.
Urban Water Supply: AMRUT 2.0 Project for Basohli Town
For urban areas, Rana said that water supply is currently being managed through existing systems, which are now being upgraded under AMRUT 2.0.
He informed that a project titled “Augmentation and Improvement of Water Supply System in Basohli Town under AMRUT 2.0” has been sanctioned at an estimated cost of ₹12.60 crore, aimed at improving distribution, capacity and reliability of drinking water in the town.
Interim Arrangements & Timeline
To ensure uninterrupted water supply during execution of the schemes, the Minister said:

Existing water supply systems are being utilised

Water tankers are being deployed wherever required
Rana further informed that the Government of India has extended the Jal Jeevan Mission timeline up to December 2028, and assured that all pending schemes in Basohli will be completed within the extended period.
Contractor Payments
On contractor-related issues, the Minister clarified that payments including Call Deposit Receipts (CDRs), Security Deposits and Performance Securities are being released strictly as per contractual terms and conditions.
The government, he said, remains committed to ensuring safe, adequate and sustainable drinking water for every household in Basohli through time-bound completion of all sanctioned projects.
