Rajouri/Jammu, March 8, 2026 : Security has been significantly strengthened inside and around the District Jail in Rajouri after a clash between inmates left 12 people injured, including four security personnel, officials said on Sunday.
The incident occurred on Saturday evening at the district jail located in Dhangri village following a heated argument between two prisoners — one from the Kashmir Valley and the other from Rajouri. Officials said the verbal altercation soon escalated into a scuffle and spread among several inmates inside the prison premises.
During the clash, some inmates allegedly pelted stones at jail staff, resulting in injuries to four security guards and eight prisoners before authorities intervened and brought the situation under control.
The injured security personnel were shifted to Government Medical College Rajouri on Saturday night for treatment, while the eight inmates were taken to the hospital on Sunday for medical examination and necessary tests. Officials confirmed that the condition of all the injured individuals is stable.
Following the incident, additional forces from the Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) rushed to the jail premises along with senior police and civil administration officers to restore order and prevent further unrest.
Authorities said security has been beefed up both inside and outside the jail, and the situation is currently under control and normal.
