Rajouri, March 8, 2026 : Jammu and Kashmir Police on Sunday detained a notorious drug peddler under the stringent Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (PIT-NDPS) in Rajouri district as part of intensified efforts to curb the drug menace and protect the youth.
According to a police spokesperson, Javad Iqbal Tass, a resident of Bhangai village in Thanamandi, had been involved in multiple cases of drug trafficking. Taking note of his repeated involvement in narcotics-related activities, the competent authority issued detention orders under the PIT-NDPS Act, following which he was detained and later lodged in the district jail.
Police said the preventive detention was aimed at breaking the supply chain of narcotics and safeguarding the younger generation from the growing drug menace in the region.
Meanwhile, in separate operations, police arrested two more alleged drug peddlers from Sidhra in Jammu and from Mendhar in Poonch district after recovering heroin-like substances from their possession.
In the first case, a private car was intercepted on Dengyali Road near Sidhra, leading to the recovery of 6.37 grams of heroin from the driver. The accused was arrested and booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS).
In another operation, police apprehended a suspect in Mendhar town, recovering nearly eight grams of heroin from his possession. A case under the NDPS Act has also been registered against him.
Police reiterated their commitment to continuing strict action against drug trafficking networks and urged the public to cooperate in the fight against narcotics.
