Anantnag, March 25, 2026 : In a major anti-corruption action, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Wednesday arrested a Naib Tehsildar for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹22,000 in Anantnag district.

The accused, identified as Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Budgam, was posted at the Tehsil Office in Arwani, Bijbehara.

Officials said the ACB’s South Kashmir team laid a trap based on specific inputs regarding corrupt practices. Acting under the supervision of Deputy Superintendent of Police Rouf Ahmad, the team caught the official red-handed while accepting the bribe amount, which was recovered on the spot.

Following the arrest, the accused was taken into custody and shifted to Awantipora for completion of legal formalities.

A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the demand and acceptance of the bribe.

The ACB reiterated its commitment to curbing corruption in government departments, particularly in the revenue sector, and urged citizens to report any such unlawful activities.
