Srinagar/Jammu, March 26, 2026 : A wave of grief swept across Jammu and Kashmir as two separate road accidents claimed two lives and left five others injured on Thursday.
In a tragic incident in the Kallar area of Rajouri district, Dr. Tabassum Naz, an Assistant Professor at Poonch Degree College, lost her life after a severe road accident. The vehicle, en route from Rajouri to Poonch, reportedly went out of control and veered off the road.
Locals immediately rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation, shifting the injured to a nearby hospital. Despite efforts, Dr. Tabassum Naz succumbed to her injuries during treatment. Her husband, Hameed, who was also in the vehicle, remains in critical condition.
Police have reached the site and initiated an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the accident.
In another incident at Rail Gund in Ganderbal district, one person from Kargil lost his life in a head-on collision between two vehicles. Four others sustained injuries, including two tourists from Maharashtra and two individuals from Ladakh.
Authorities have shifted the injured to medical facilities, and further investigation is underway.
These back-to-back accidents highlight ongoing concerns over road safety in hilly terrains, urging stricter precautions and vigilant driving.
