Jammu, May 6, 2026 : The newly launched Vande Bharat Express connecting Jammu and Srinagar has received an overwhelming response from travellers, with over 16,349 passengers availing the service within just four days of its launch.
Introduced on May 2, the semi-high-speed train has recorded an average occupancy of approximately 82%, underlining its rising popularity among commuters, tourists, and pilgrims seeking a faster and more comfortable travel option. Railway officials noted that passenger numbers have shown a steady upward trend since its inauguration.
On May 4, the train operated with two pairs of services, carrying around 4,680 passengers at an occupancy rate of 82%. The following day, May 5, saw a sharp increase in demand, with occupancy jumping to an impressive 96% despite only one operational pair of trains (Nos. 26404 and 26403). Nearly 2,744 passengers travelled in each direction, reflecting strong public preference for the service.
Officials attribute this surge to the train’s modern amenities and superior travel experience. Passengers have particularly appreciated the smooth, jerk-free journey across the region’s challenging terrain, along with high-quality onboard catering and upgraded amenities.
Authorities from the Jammu railway division are conducting regular inspections to maintain high standards of service and ensure passenger satisfaction. Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Uchit Singhal said the response reflects the success of ongoing modernization efforts within Indian Railways.
He described the rapid rise in occupancy—from 82% to 96% within two days—as a significant achievement, adding that continuous feedback from passengers is being closely monitored to further enhance the travel experience. With the tourism season gaining pace, officials expect the train to soon operate at near full capacity.
The strong beginning of the Jammu–Srinagar Vande Bharat service marks a major milestone in regional connectivity, offering a blend of speed, comfort, and reliability while boosting tourism and economic activity in Jammu & Kashmir.
