JAMMU, May 18, 2026 : The Jammu and Kashmir Government has enhanced the Dearness Allowance (DA) for employees drawing salaries under the 6th Pay Commission from 257 per cent to 262 per cent of Basic Pay with effect from January 1, 2026.
An order issued by the Finance Department stated that the revised DA would apply to employees receiving pay under the pre-revised pay scale and grade pay structure of the 6th Pay Commission.
According to the order, arrears for the period from January to April 2026 will be handled differently depending on the pension scheme of the employees. For employees covered under the General Provident Fund (GPF) scheme, the arrears will be credited to their GPF accounts. Meanwhile, employees covered under the National Pension System (NPS) will receive the arrears in cash.
The revised Dearness Allowance will become part of the monthly salary from May 2026 onwards.
The Government also clarified that any fraction of 50 paisa and above in the DA amount will be rounded off to the next higher rupee, while fractions below 50 paisa will be ignored.
The decision is expected to provide additional financial relief to employees continuing under the 6th Pay Commission pay structure amid rising living costs.
