ANANTNAG, May 19, 2026 : Continuing its sustained crackdown against drug trafficking and narcotics abuse, Anantnag Police on Monday carried out multiple anti-drug operations in Sangam and Aishmuqam areas, registering three FIRs and arresting two alleged drug peddlers while recovering heroin and charas-like substances, officials said.
According to police officials, acting on specific information, a police team from Police Post Sangam conducted a raid at the residence of Manzoor Ahmad Shah, son of Late Abdul Rehman Shah, a resident of Ikhrajpora Marhama.
During the search operation, police recovered nearly 3.340 kilograms of charas powder-like contraband substance from the residential premises.
However, the accused was reportedly absconding at the time of the raid, and efforts are underway to trace and arrest him.
Police said a case under FIR No. 131/2026 has been registered under Section 8/20 of the NDPS Act, and further investigation has been initiated.
In another operation, a police party from Police Station Aishmuqam intercepted a suspicious individual during routine naka checking at Magrey Mohalla.
Officials said the suspect, who was travelling from Ainoo towards Aishmuqam, attempted to flee after noticing the police presence but was apprehended by the naka party.
During personal search, police recovered nearly 17 grams of heroin-like substance concealed inside an orange-coloured polythene bag carried by the accused.
The accused was identified as Mudasir Ahmad Gilkar alias Uzain, son of Nisar Ahmad Gilkar, a resident of Magrey Mohalla Aishmuqam.
Police said a case under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act has been registered and investigation has been taken up.
Meanwhile, in a separate naka checking operation at Rangkadal Aishmuqam, another suspicious person travelling from Jamooh towards Aishmuqam allegedly attempted to evade the police team after spotting the naka checkpoint.
The suspect was apprehended, and during the search operation, police recovered approximately 13 grams of heroin-like substance from his possession.
During preliminary questioning, the accused identified himself as Mehraj-u-Din Bala alias Pintu Bala, son of Ghulam Mohammad Bala, a resident of Peer Mohalla Aishmuqam.
Police said another case under relevant sections of law has been registered and investigation has been initiated.
Reiterating its zero-tolerance policy against narcotics trafficking, Anantnag Police urged the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies by sharing information regarding drug peddlers and illegal narcotics activities in their respective areas.
