ROME, May 20, 2026 : Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni once again brought the popular “Melodi” trend into the spotlight after thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi for gifting her famous ‘Melody’ toffees during his official visit to Italy.
In a heartwarming video shared on social media, Meloni smilingly said, “Prime Minister Modi brought as a gift, a very, very good toffee — Melody.” The light-hearted remark left PM Modi laughing as the Italian leader showcased the gift, with the post captioned, “Thank you for the gift.”
The playful “Melodi” tag — blending the names Modi and Meloni — first gained worldwide attention during the COP28 Summit in Dubai in 2023, when Meloni shared a friendly picture with PM Modi captioned, “Good friends at COP28.” Since then, the hashtag has become symbolic of the warm diplomatic chemistry between the two leaders.
PM Modi arrived in Rome on Tuesday as part of the final leg of his five-nation diplomatic tour covering the UAE, the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway and Italy from May 15-20, 2026. His Italy visit aims to deepen bilateral cooperation in trade, defence, clean energy, technology and strategic partnerships.
The leaders have maintained strong engagement over the past few years, with Meloni also visiting India during the G20 Summit in 2023, strengthening ties between New Delhi and Rome.
