JAMMU, May 20, 2026 : Security forces on Wednesday recovered a suspected drone-dropped packet containing narcotics from the border belt of Jammu district, raising fresh concerns over cross-border smuggling attempts in the region.
According to official sources, the suspicious packet was found in Bahadurpur Panchayat of the Bishnah area after a local resident noticed it while tilling his agricultural field. The resident immediately alerted authorities following the discovery.
Soon after receiving the information, teams from the Border Security Force (BSF) and local police rushed to the spot and launched a joint operation. The area was immediately cordoned off to ensure safety and prevent any possible tampering with the recovered material.
Officials said the packet was seized and a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team was called to examine its contents. Preliminary assessments suggest the recovered substance is suspected to be heroin, though confirmation will be made after forensic analysis.
Security agencies have intensified surveillance in the border areas amid repeated attempts by smugglers to use drones for transporting narcotics, weapons and other contraband into Indian territory.
Authorities are investigating the origin of the packet and possible links to cross-border narcotics networks.
