Rajouri, June 2, 2026 : The ongoing anti-terror operation in the dense forests of Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district entered its 11th day on Tuesday, with General Officer Commanding (GoC), White Knight Corps, Lieutenant General P K Mishra, reviewing the progress of Operation Sheruwali and assessing the operational situation on the ground.

According to officials, Lt Gen Mishra, accompanied by the GoC Counter Insurgency Force (CIF) Romeo, visited the Gambhir Mughlan area in the Manjakote sector to evaluate ongoing efforts aimed at tracking down suspected terrorists believed to be hiding in the rugged and heavily forested terrain.

During the visit, the Corps Commander was briefed on the overall operational strategy, ongoing actions, intelligence inputs, and sustainment measures being undertaken by troops engaged in the operation. He also reviewed the logistical arrangements supporting soldiers operating in one of the region’s most challenging terrains.

In a post on X, the White Knight Corps stated:

“GOC, White Knight Corps, accompanied by GOC CIF Romeo, visited the general area of Gambhir Mughlan to review the progress of Operation Sheruwali and assess the operational situation on the ground.”

The Army said Lt Gen Mishra commended the troops for their determination, professionalism, and disciplined execution of operational tasks. He lauded all ranks for maintaining high morale and unwavering commitment despite the demanding conditions.

“He praised all ranks for their high morale, relentless focus and ironclad resolve in pursuit of operational objectives,” the Army said.

Reaffirming its commitment to ensuring peace and security in the region, the White Knight Corps emphasized that operations would continue until the objective is achieved.

“The hunt continues,” the Army added.

Operation Launched Following Intelligence Inputs

Operation Sheruwali was launched on May 23, 2026, after security agencies received specific intelligence regarding the presence of terrorists in the Dorimal-Gambhir Mughlan belt of Rajouri district.

An encounter was triggered when a joint team of security forces established contact with the suspected terrorists during a search operation. Since then, extensive search and cordon operations have been underway across the dense forest region.

Officials said security forces have intensified efforts by carrying out coordinated search operations and targeted fire assaults on suspected terrorist hideouts. Advanced weaponry, including multi-barrel grenade launchers, has also been deployed against locations suspected of sheltering terrorists.

The operation is being conducted in a difficult landscape characterized by thick forests, steep gorges, rocky terrain, and natural caves, making the search mission particularly challenging.

Hideout Busted, Signs of Injuries Detected

On Monday, security forces achieved a significant breakthrough by uncovering a terrorist hideout in the area after a brief exchange of fire.

Officials reported that blood stains were discovered at the site, indicating that one or more terrorists may have sustained injuries while escaping the security cordon. However, no terrorist has been neutralized so far, and the search operation remains active.

Review of LoC Preparedness

A day before reviewing Operation Sheruwali, Lt Gen Mishra, accompanied by the GoC Ace of Spades Division, visited forward areas along the Line of Control (LoC) to assess the evolving security environment and review operational preparedness.

During the visit, he interacted with troops deployed in forward positions and expressed satisfaction with measures implemented to strengthen surveillance systems, enhance precision-strike capabilities, and improve readiness for future warfare scenarios.

The Army reiterated its commitment to maintaining operational dominance along the LoC while continuing counter-terrorism operations aimed at safeguarding peace and stability in the region.
