BANIHAL, June 8, 2026 : A truck driver from Pampore lost his life in a tragic road accident after the vehicle he was driving overturned on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) near Nachlana in Banihal tehsil of Ramban district on Monday morning.
According to officials, a canter truck bearing registration number JK02DU-9275 was travelling from Kashmir towards Jammu when it reportedly overturned near Nachlana under circumstances that are yet to be determined. The impact of the accident was severe, resulting in the driver’s death on the spot.
The deceased has been identified as Mohd Zafar, son of Mohd Kassim, a resident of Pampore in Pulwama district.
Soon after the incident, police personnel and rescue teams rushed to the accident site and launched relief operations. The body was later shifted to Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Banihal for medico-legal formalities.
Officials said the exact cause of the accident remains under investigation. Police have registered the case and initiated further proceedings to ascertain the circumstances that led to the fatal mishap.
The accident adds to the growing concern over road safety on the busy Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, where challenging terrain, traffic congestion, and adverse weather conditions often contribute to accidents.
Authorities have urged motorists, particularly drivers of heavy vehicles, to exercise caution and strictly follow safety regulations while travelling on the highway.
