NEW DELHI, OCTOBER 03, 2026 : Delhi Police has seized approximately 2,101 kg of alleged illegal firecrackers from two tempo vehicles and a storage facility in outer-north Delhi and apprehended three people in connection with the recovery, officials said Saturday.
1,350 Kg Recovered From Two Vehicles
Acting on specific information about the transportation of a large consignment of firecrackers from Haryana to Delhi, police intercepted two tempo vehicles on October 1 near Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II) in Bawana.
The vehicles were allegedly carrying around 1,350 kg of firecrackers. Both drivers were apprehended following the interception.
Another 751 Kg Found in Alipur Godown
During the subsequent investigation, police traced another storage facility in Alipur, where they recovered an additional 751 kg of firecrackers.
A man identified as Manoj Kumar, 34, a resident of Tilak Nagar, was found at the godown and apprehended.
The total seizure from the vehicles and storage facility amounted to approximately 2,101 kg.
Three People Apprehended
Police identified the three apprehended individuals as:
- Amit Gupta, 42, Bindapur, Uttam Nagar
- Sunil, 42, Bindapur
- Manoj Kumar, 34, Tilak Nagar
Amit Gupta and Sunil were allegedly driving the two tempo vehicles, while Manoj Kumar was found at the Alipur storage facility.
Case Registered
A case was registered on October 2, 2026, under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Explosives Act.
Delhi Police said further legal action will be taken against those found involved based on the evidence collected during the investigation.
The investigation is continuing to determine the source of the firecrackers, their intended destination and the wider network involved in their transportation and storage.
