Srinagar, May 25, 2025 :  Ahead of the start of Amarnath yatra in first week of July, Jammu and Kashmir Police chief Nalin Prabhat on Saturday directed forces to deploy anti-sabotage teams along the yatra routes.

A police spokesperson said the Director General of Police (DGP) chaired a joint meeting with officers from the various security and intelligence agencies at the Police Control Room in Srinagar to review the overall security arrangements for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra.

After a major terror attack in Pahalgam last month, the security forces are putting extra efforts to ensure the peaceful conduct of yatra this year.

Amarnath Yatra takes place every year from two routes — the shorter route from Baltal in Ganderbal district and another from Pahalgam in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

Police officials said that senior officers, including Special DGP, Coordination, SJM Gillani, were present in the meeting.

At the onset of the meeting, the zonal Inspector General of Police briefed the chair on the proposed security arrangements for the conduct of Yyatra.

The officers of CAPF and other security forces also briefed the chair, gave their feedback and emphasised the significance of effective coordination among the various forces, the spokesperson said.

During the meeting, the DGP issued directions for implementing the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and also emphasised the importance of proactive measures in mitigating risks and ensuring the safety and security of the pilgrims.

Officials said he also directed the field officers to intensify their efforts to dismantle the terror ecosystem.

The DGP instructed the officers to “bolster security measures and mitigate potential risks by deploying Anti-Sabotage teams along the yatra routes.”

“He also directed the officers to enhance surveillance and threat detection capabilities by utilising advanced technologies and real-time monitoring of both pilgrimage routes,” the police spokesperson said.

The meeting concluded with a resolve to ensure the highest level of preparedness and coordination for the smooth and successful conduct of this year’s yatra.
