Katra, Jun 26, 2025: A fresh landslide, triggered by continuous rainfall, blocked the new track to the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in Trikuta hills, Reasi district, on Thursday, officials said.
The landslide struck near Satya View Point along the Himkoti route. However, officials confirmed that the pilgrimage continues smoothly via the old traditional track, even as battery car and helicopter services remain suspended due to weather conditions.
The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board had already diverted pilgrims to the old route amid warnings of landslides on the new track. Additionally, a separate landslide disrupted the path leading to the Bhairav temple, affecting pilgrim movement.
Restoration work is underway, with teams and machinery deployed to clear debris and restore access on both routes.
Earlier, on June 24, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha directed officials to identify vulnerable spots along the pilgrimage route and implement preventive measures to mitigate risks posed by landslides and shooting stones, ensuring the safety of devotees.
