Jammu, Jun 26, 2025 : The Crime Branch of Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday filed charge sheets in five separate cases of cheating, naming nine accused involved in duping people with false promises of jobs and college admissions.
In one case, Alok Kumar of Himachal Pradesh and Maneer Ahmad Bhat of Doda were charge-sheeted for allegedly taking ₹12 lakh from a doctor in Surankote, Poonch, under the pretext of securing MBBS seats for his daughters in a private medical college in Jammu.
In another case, Rakesh Sareen, proprietor of Vijay Industries in Delhi, was accused of cheating a Jammu resident of ₹9.42 lakh by promising machinery for a business setup.
The Crime Branch also filed a charge sheet against Shafiq Ahmed Lone (Baramulla), Mohammad Inam-Ul-Haq (Delhi), and Firoz Khan (Uttar Pradesh) for allegedly taking ₹6.5 lakh from a Jammu resident by offering an overseas job for his son.
Pawan Kumar and Naresh Kumar, both residents of Chandigarh, were charged with duping two Jammu locals of ₹6.41 lakh on the false promise of employment in a private security firm.
In the fifth case, Varinder Kumar from Punjab was charge-sheeted for allegedly defrauding ₹1 lakh from a Rajouri resident on the pretext of arranging a work visa.
The cases, registered between 2019 and 2023, have been submitted to the courts for judicial proceedings, a Crime Branch spokesperson said.
