Jammu, July 22, 2025 : In a major crackdown on the narcotics network, police in Jammu and Udhampur districts arrested nine drug peddlers and seized a significant quantity of contraband along with ₹20 lakh in cash, officials said on Tuesday.
A police spokesperson said two individuals — Saif Ali alias “Safu” of Bishnah and his son-in-law Sadiq Ali alias “Jattu” of Kathua — were arrested after 283 grams of heroin and ₹20 lakh were recovered from their car during a routine check at Sikandarpur Kothey in Bishnah on the outskirts of Jammu. An investigation is ongoing to trace the source and destination of the seized narcotics.
In Udhampur district, three drug peddlers were arrested in Rehambal after police recovered 10.5 kg of poppy straw from a load carrier vehicle.
Two others were nabbed in Tikri with 8.77 grams of heroin, while one more was arrested in Kud with nearly 1 kg of ganja hidden inside his car.
In Jammu’s Janipora locality, a peddler was caught with 2.3 kg of ganja.
Meanwhile, in Kathua district, notorious peddler Pankaj Sharma alias “Panku”, a resident of Billawar, was detained under the PIT-NDPS Act on the directions of the Divisional Commissioner.
Additionally, authorities demolished two shops belonging to a suspected drug peddler in the Rajeev Nagar area of Jammu as part of continued anti-narcotics enforcement action.
Police said efforts to dismantle drug supply chains will continue, and strict action under relevant laws will be taken against repeat offenders.
