New Delhi, July 22, 2025 : A Delhi court on Tuesday granted custody parole to Baramulla MP Engineer Rashid from July 24 to August 4 to attend the ongoing Monsoon Session of Parliament.
Rashid, currently lodged in Tihar Jail since 2019, was arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) in connection with a 2017 terror funding case.
The order was issued by Additional Sessions Judge Chander Jit Singh, while a detailed judgment is still awaited.
Rashid had sought either interim bail or custody parole to fulfill his duties as an elected Member of Parliament. His counsel argued for his attendance without the burden of travel expenses.
The NIA opposed interim bail but did not object to custody parole, provided travel expenses were paid.
Rashid rose to national attention after defeating former J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. He is currently facing trial for allegedly funding separatist and terror-related activities in Jammu and Kashmir.
