Jammu, July 27, 2025 : In a crackdown on the sale of hazardous materials, Jammu and Kashmir Police have booked a shopkeeper in R.S. Pura for selling banned Chinese nylon thread, commonly known as Gattu or Chinese manja.
Acting on a tip-off, a team from Police Station R.S. Pura, led by PSI Abid Bashir, conducted a raid in the local market and seized nine rolls of the dangerous synthetic thread, a police official confirmed.
The accused has been identified as Raman Kumar, a resident of Ward No. 6, R.S. Pura.
“He was found in possession of the prohibited thread, which has been banned in Jammu district due to its deadly nature and involvement in numerous injury and fatality cases,” the official said.
A case has been registered under relevant legal provisions, and further investigation is underway.
Authorities have urged the public to report any sale or possession of such banned materials to prevent potential harm, especially during the festive kite-flying season.
