SRINAGAR, July 28, 2025 : Prominent Kashmiri comedian and folk artist Bashir Ahmad Bhat, widely known as Bashir Kotur, passed away at his residence in Hanjigund, Chadoora on Monday, just a day after being discharged from the hospital, family sources confirmed.

Bhat had been battling multiple health complications and was recently admitted to the ICU in critical condition. Though discharged on Saturday, his health deteriorated rapidly, leading to his death on Monday afternoon.

A beloved figure in Kashmir’s cultural landscape, Bashir Kotur was celebrated for his witty performances, deep-rooted connection with Kashmiri traditions, and a commanding stage presence that earned him admiration across generations.

His passing marks a significant loss to the region’s comedy and folk theatre scene, with tributes pouring in from artists, fans, and cultural organizations.

Funeral prayers are scheduled to be held later today in his native village.
